The best news to come out of the screen writers' strike is that CBS, strapped for content, is moving "Dexter" over from sister premium channel Showtime to the main broadcast network. Unlike NBC, which has pulled some recent episodes of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" back from USA Network to run on their mainline channel, CBS is going to start from scratch, running the year-and-a-half-old show, starting on February 17th.

"Dexter" is the smartest show most of you have never seen, a crime drama in the "Law & Order" or "CSI" tradition but with a twist. Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan is a police forensics investigator for his day job, but he moonlights as a vigilante who kills murderers who'd otherwise get off on technicalities.

Showtime is known for broadcasting dramas without worrying about such things as foul language or nudity; "Dexter" episodes tend to be rated TV-MA. It should be interesting to see how much chopping CBS has to do to air the show, even in the often slightly laxer 10pm slot.
